BSTU Celebrates International Mother Language Day

22 February 2023

International Mother Language Day has been observed on February 21 throughout the world for more than 20 years. It was approved at the 1999 UNESCO General Conference. It is within the UNESCO mandate for peace that it works to preserve the differences in cultures and languages that foster tolerance and respect for others.
The 24th edition of International Mother Language Day focused on the theme ‘multilingual education – a necessity to transform education’.
International students who do their foundation year and Russian language courses at BSTU organized a sociocultural gathering to celebrate International Mother Language Day.
Students from Myanmar, China, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Gambia, Nigeria, DR Congo recited poems of Belarusian and Russian writers, sang songs in their native languages: Burmese, Chines, Turkish, etc.
Multilingual and multicultural societies exist through their languages which transmit and preserve traditional knowledge and cultures in a sustainable way.
Learn languages to facilitate cross-cultural understanding.
