Pavel Sukhoi University celebrates Maslenitsa

24 March 2023

We live in an interesting and difficult time, when we begin to look at many things differently, rediscover and re-evaluate many things. If we could plunge into the past, when our great-grandparents still lived; and to see how their way of life and traditions developed, it would be not only interesting, but also instructive for us.
Maslenitsa is one of those days, the traditions and rituals of which are rooted in the deep past - in the days of pre-Christian Rus'.
On March 1, students of the Gomel State Technical University named after P.O. Sukhoi had a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the holiday, symbolizing the farewell to winter and the meeting of spring.
The event was not complete without the main attribute - treats. Pancakes are considered a traditional dish for Shrovetide, and the children could enjoy them to their heart's content, drink hot tea, take a break from their studies and have fun participating in various competitions.
There was also an educational component: the children learned a lot of new and interesting information about the Maslenitsa week, each day of which was considered special and involved certain rituals.
The participants of the event actively answered the questions of the “pancake” quiz, danced on newspapers as part of the “Russian dance” competition, ate pancakes at speed without the help of hands, guessed the filling with their eyes closed and learned the full power of the festivities.
Colors of the holiday were also given by musical numbers prepared by the folk ensemble of the folk song "Slavs".
The guys left the event satisfied and smiling, which indicates the need to continue the wonderful tradition that has existed for many years and continues to delight the people with festivities and instill in young people a sense of respect, love for the national customs of our ancestors, interest in the history of Belarusian cuisine and cooking traditional Belarusian dishes.
