Francisk Skoryna Gomel State University celebrated the 880th anniversary of Gomel
Traditionally, Gomel celebrates its birthday in the first ten days of September. This year Gomel celebrated its anniversary. Since early morning it was possible to feel the mood of the anniversary as broad streets and squares have been loading with interactive platforms, interesting and fascinating exhibitions and people, who were hurrying to congratulate their lovely city.
The leadership of the University, teachers and representatives of public organizations did everything possible for that day to become unforgettable.
On the Lenin's square and the embankment of the Sozh river three exhibition expositions, prepared by the department of youth initiatives and student self-government, the department of culture and youth leisure, the Confucius Institute at the F. Skorina State University, students and teachers of the university were unfolded at once. Students gave dozens of positive emotions to spectators through communication and collective photographs, and everyone was awarded a sweet prize for taking part in competitions.
In addition to the traditional exhibition of achievements of higher education and the work of the university, stands dedicated to Chinese and Russian culture were highly demanded. Exhibiting bright photos in A2 format from the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Gomel perfectly complemented the exhibition pavilion. The carvings by master Vladimir Kuklin attracted the attention of many people, and the bobbin lacemaking by Irina Kruglova fascinated passers-by. The Confucius Institute widely presented various workshops on Chinese Guohua painting and character writing, Chinese checkers and chess, openwork paper cutting, Chinese knot weaving, the Chinese Modern Children's Book exhibition with a quiz, a tea ceremony and heard the ancient musical instrument’s play.
Gomel residents and guests of the city with great pleasure took memorable photos with the "live" Francis Skorina, life-size puppets and nesting dolls, tried their hand at a quiz on knowledge of the history of their native land, took part in master classes and left their wishes in the book of the first printer.
