Belarusian school students guided by BSU faculty members win awards at the International Earth Science Olympiad

Belarusian school students guided by BSU faculty members won seven bronze awards at the International Earth Science Olympiad (IESO-2026). The intellectual competition included individual and team stages. A distinctive feature of the team round was the participation of young geographers in international mixed teams. The students prepared scientific projects in the format of posters (ESP) and presentations (ITFI).

Following the results of the team stage, bronze awards were won by Olga Kazantseva (ESP, ITFI) from Mogilev State Regional Lyceum No. 1, Dmitry Pushkar (ITFI) from Secondary School No. 14 in Novopolotsk, Danila Kostylev (ITFI) from Gymnasium No. 2 in Orsha, and Roman Ivlev (ITFI) from Gymnasium No. 2 in Vitebsk.

The individual round included theoretical and practical tasks in English. They consisted of questions in the fields of geology, paleogeography, hydrology, meteorology, and geomorphology. In the individual standings, Dmitry Pushkar and Danila Kostylev were awarded bronze medals.

The team leaders were Dmitry Vorobyov, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Geography and Geoinformatics (FGG) at BSU, and Natalia Pisarchuk, Senior Lecturer at the FGG Department of Physical Geography of the World and Educational Technologies.

The Olympiad concluded on August 27 in Turin, Italy. A total of 166 schoolchildren from 42 countries participated in the event.

Notably, the preparation of the Belarusian team was conducted on a regular basis at the BSU Faculty of Geography and Geoinformatics, supervised by First Vice-Rector Dmitry Kurlovich and Dean Elena Kolmakova.
